I am sorry to hear about these horrible unfortanate experinces and yes complications can occur as they do in any type of surgery ,but spaying and neutering is the best way to keep down the pet population . We have over 350 puppies ,juniors, to adult…

I have never considered birth control for dogs, but that would be very convenient! Especially for breeders who want better control on birth schedules

I agree. As it is very hard to get an animal to swallow a pill, maybe it could be made as a food. I think that you raise a great point. I saw a cat that had an abnormal stomache sag, and i was informed that it was an accident from a spaying surgery.…

Dori gave a nicely stated personal opinion. Feeling it would lead to too much dog breeding. We all know there is too much breeding and too many large dogs with unknown pedigree paying the price. Many people are trying to fix the problem, even many b…

Optional: Tell us a little about yourself
I am a responsible animal lover, have been for years. I have re-homed dumped animals, love to help others find homes for their puppies that need them. Have adopted many of the animals I have, as their owners were no longer able to keep them. I have tried in the past to get our shelter to let me re-home some animals, to no avail. But will keep trying. I have spayed/neutered many of my pets over the years. After 33 years of animal loving we had our first puppy Zoey in 2007. Oh kill me? But I am NOT a "Hate" animal rights activist. The kind that glean animal sites and make harassing hateful emails to sellers; "Your a back yard breeder?" "Your a Puppy Mill?" or unfounded, false accusations to the site against sellers to forward their cause, trying to get them blocked off the site. Extinction of pets is not my cause, but to re-educate people and "make help" available to people that do not have the money to spayed/neuter their pets? This is why shelters are full and why animals die needlessly, not due to breeders! It is the reason helpless dogs end up at shelters. And to complain about hobbiest breeders, is complaining about your competition! I am a retired RN, so I really love working with the dogs, cats and puppies. Re-homing the animals has been very rewarding to me, a sense of purpose after an early retirement after being hit by a Semi Truck. I now have chronic pain due to 8 herniated disks, as I broke my back in the MVA. Oh, not poor me! I also baby sit my adult kids animals. They are as much a part of our pack as our own animals are. They come to visit, we baby sit them or we care for their pets if they are ill because they work.
Optional: Tell us a little about your pets (names, ages, breeds):
Pasted Loved ones: Sam was my first loved baby boy in the sixties. He was a mixed beagle, lived well over 10 years until he escaped out of his fenced yard and was hit by a car. Broke my heart! Baron: A pure breed Doberman pincher, 80's. We adopted him after my cousin could not keep him. He lived well over 10 years, died of old age. He was a wonderful guard dog. Junior: We missed Baron so much that after a year, we got Junior, he was stolen out of our yard. Boomer: My son's 8th birthday gift. A pure breed mini schnauzer. Man did I love him! He loved to chase basket balls. I had to buy any basketball I could find at garage sales just to keep up with him, as he'd pop them. He died at about 12 years old after heart worm therapy. Lady: A pure breed mini Pomeranian. Never breed. A much loved lap dog of my husbands. She lived 18 years. We miss her very much, she was adopted after my aunt could no longer keep her due to her barking. We worked with her, but she still liked to bark. We just loved her anyway. She was spayed, had two hip surgeries. Mollie: A gift from my son, who knew Lady was getting up in age. As my husband loved her so much, was ill he did not want him to mourn her loss without another to help him. She died suddenly at only 1 1/2 years old of a stroke. Broke his/my heart. Then Lady dies? Terrible time in our lives. Sammie: A dumped pure breed standard weenier dog. We were working with him, as he had been neglected and had a few aggression issue, like needing all the attention. I had him almost ready to re-home to a single family when he got out of the fence, ran to the highway and was hit :(. I went out scrapped his body (& Coco's) off the highway and buried him with our other loved animals that have died. Coco: Was also a pure breed Shit Tzu that I bought off/rescued of a breeder that did not care for his animals very well. I was also working with him. He could dance, pray, prance. He got out with Sammie, and was also hit. They were hit way too far off the highway. One on one side, the other on the other lane of traffic. It looked like they were hit on purpose! We were to re-home him as well. Charlie: Is a pure breed very loved and behaved Shit Tzu. We re-homed him after preventing him from being hit, as he wondered on a highway. But we do try to find the owners with lost/found ads, and never assume they've been dumped. Sweetie: Amer. Pit Bull, spayed, stolen. Wonderful dog! Poochie-female, spayed. Mixed breed that we adopted when a friend could not keep her at about six months. She is now well over 10 years now. She is the alpha female and makes sure all our pets respect her. Rooter: is a male mixed breed. Again adopted due a divorce, and they could not keep him. He is our outside guard dog. I just love his bark, it sounds like a fog horn. He does a good job of not harming anyone but he makes strangers know that this is his yard. We live on 20 acres, out in the country. So we need a good guard dog. Mercedes: She is a pure breed West Highland Terrier. She is spayed, we just love her. She is six years old now. She does follow her nose and wonder off if I am not careful when letting her out. My son was granted custody of her in a divorce. He worked too much so we took her on, adoption. Little Man: A pure breed Toy Chihuahua. He thinks I only belong to him. I love to take him everywhere is his little carry case. He of course sleeps with me and my husband. Again adopted, and was my sons. Zoey: Our 2 years old Pom Chi, she is Mollie's only puppy. Our first litter ever (OK activist kill me!). She is smart, boy can she run, she thinks dad is only hers, until I-alpha female comes along to correct her. Dad is a push over! Annie: Chorkie; My son raises 1 litter a year of toy/mini Chorkie, designer dogs. I help him find the puppies homes. She was returned after being sold. Bella: Pure breed Mini Pomiranian, saved from 2 huskies that hated her, adopted. Dixie: Our mini Schnauzer, adopted from a woman that was moving into an apartment. Love her to pieces! And many cats over the years, also spayed/neutered. Sweet Pea our new puppy, a West Highland Terrier. We live here, so we can have as many animals as we can care for and love appropriately, without government dictatorship.
Optional: What are your pets' favorite things to do?
All of our pets, or pack now, get along very well. We do not allow any fussing. The love to run and play with each other, or us. Squeaky toys are a must in our house, and chew raw hides. They are all pee pad trained, also trained to go outside. They fetch. They watch TV, lounge with us on our sectional. We give them all individual attention and affection. With the four grandchildren, and three adults there are a lot of people to love them! If they get sick, it is off to the vet. My poor vet bill for over a year was $100.00 US dollars, as I spayed/neutered my four adult kids pets because they did not have the money, and we also take care of their pets if they get ill.
Optional: What are their "pet peeves"?
Mercedes does not like to be picked up and thrown up in the air. Gee I wonder why? She is the alpha female inside the house. She loves the yearly puppies that come to visit for re-homing. She takes them all on as the mother, corrects them and teaches them. They pull and tuck on her, she is so patient. Rooter: Do not put him in a car! We want to neuter him and have not been able to get him into our van, he is too afraid! The vet said he'd come and fix him when he has a horse or cow down near our home. Poochie: Do not bark in her face! All our dogs know better. Petter Ann (The alpha at her home.) is my son's dog that I baby sit here and there, Mercedes better not be disrespectful too her! Or the fight is on. They used to live together and just duke it out daily! They are equally matched for sure. They both know better and are punished. Pepper Ann hates to be told "Bad girl." We watch the Dog Whisper and just love it, it has helped us have a well adjusted behaved family of dogs! My pet peeves are: Animal Right Activist that believe their way or the highway! Extinction is not the answer for pets! Education is, and funds for spaying/neutering. Being a dictator or laws to force spaying/neutering is BS. Discrimination against others, because they do not feel as you do? All are real pet peeves!
Optional: What are their best tricks?
We let them develop their personality naturally, we do not try to teach them tricks. But begging when we eat could be all their best tricks! Zoey has the others beat by far! She uses her eyes, and if you do not respond she'll touch you with her paw. Very polite beggar.
Optional: How did your pets become part of your family?
I have only bought two pets in my life, Boomer for my son's 8th birthday, and now Sweet Pea, could not resist her. Adoption to save or re-home have been the main reasons. We are not animal hordes! Are four children are gone and due to the large need for people to care for pets, we have taken in more than the normal two, as we have a large place and the room now to do it.

Watch out for SCAM rescue groups. They steal dogs and sell them under Tax free status.

Mon. 6th Oct. 08 Mercedes my West Highland Terrier (hunting dogs from Ireland) went out to go potty, she followed her nose down to the water park( two doors down) played got dirty and wet. She was almost home, a good Samaritan picked her up thinking she was saving her. Dumped her at a park thinking that she'd be adopted there instead of getting hit? Another lady picked her up near the park, knocked on doors by the park, but it was not her street now. No she's not ours the home owners said. When… Continue

Parvo Virus is extremely Deadly so take action now before it is too late.

If you have ever lost a puppy to the Parvo Virus you know that it is heartbreaking experience. The vet bills are huge and they still may not survive. So here is what I have learned. If you are allowing a dog to breed she needs a Parvo booster half way through the pregnancy. Wean the puppies at three weeks of age. Ya I know it's always been six weeks in the past. But the reason is very simple. It takes three weeks to get the moms immunity out of the puppies. Why is that important? Because moms mi… Continue

I have coined a new term, or at least I have not known of the expression being used before. "Hobbyist Shelter" or "Hobbyist Shelters"

Hi, I just wanted people that find dumped dogs, (instead of taking them to a shelter that has "Death Row" policies, then down the animal.), take responsibility for opps litters, and that find homes for them or keep them, to have a voice or expression to end the wrongful harassment of them to stop, or a way to tell the difference from them, or free them from being associated with terms like: "Puppy Mills," "Back Yard Breeders" etc. I think this clarifies the difference and give good people a way… Continue

Harrassment of sellers on classified ad sites useing unsolitited hateful spam emails to further your beliefs is a Hate Crime

Hateful Emails to a seller on any classified ad site, free or paid is wrong: If you are trying to further your beliefs or taking action for a cause attempting to apply pressure etc., falsely reporting an ad as being a scam, so the ad is automatically pulled, is also a violation of many sites. Harassment, violates most sites terms of use policies. Also in the US, Federal and State laws, by using email to harass people. To place an ad naming a seller, identifying theContinue

I have been doing it for 7 years. www.naturalpetproducts.net has some photos, since your in Boulder, and we do it quite often there, your welcome to come see us clean a dog or cats teeth. People love it because they don't have to put them under and can do it often so the teeth stay clean and the breath does not get bad. I study nutrition and would love to give input from time to time. Just took a food therapy course for horses and dogs in March at the Chi Institute.
