Optional: Tell us a little about yourself
I live in Dallas, Texas and own two great dogs. One is a 1 1/2 year old Rottweiler/German Shephard mix with an ear that sticks up all by itself. We call her Ore, short for oreja (ear in Spanish). We just adopted a companion named Soldier. He is 10 weeks old, and is also a Rottweiler mix.
Optional: Tell us a little about your pets (names, ages, breeds):
We found our first dog abandoned last Fall when the renters next door left her. We just adopted our second dog this Tuesday from a shelter. We wanted a similar dog to out first, we wanted them to match in colors, breed, and in energy levels. We wanted a big breed male that we could train (like we trained the first dog). The goals are to have them both sit, stay, come, roll over, and fetch. They love eachother so far.
Optional: What are your pets' favorite things to do?
So far they like to play Alpha dog, and see who's the toughest.
Optional: What are their "pet peeves"?
They like to tease the dogs next door.
Optional: What are their best tricks?
My 1 1/2 year old Ore will come, stay, sit, and has an excellent recall (comes to me from long distances, even while distracted). The little one is learning to sit.
Optional: How did your pets become part of your family?
One was abandoned by the neighbors, and the other was adopted from the pound.
It's been a little while since I checked in to this site. We had Soldier two weeks when he got reallllly sick. I noticed he had lost a lot of wieght in a matter of two -three days. He was what the vet called "emaciated". Come to find out he had an intestinal parasite called Coccidia (sp?). After one week on meds, Soldier made it out unscathed! I am proud to say that he is in excellent health and a growing boy. Not to mention, the vet told me that he is pure Doberman. That was a shock. I was told that I had a Rottweiler mix, and I wasn't really looking for a Dobie. Thanks okay, because I love Soldier all the same and he has his forever home......tear, tear (tears of joy, that is!).
I have a shepherd/rott mix. She looks mainly shepherd, with floppy ears. I also have a rott mix. The older one always tries to be Alpha Dog, but not when my husband is home. I agree with the PARVO blog. I didn't know about PARVO, until I adopted Buckles. Welcome to my Arfie!!
Welcome to my arfie. Have fun and learn and make new friends. I notice your dogs ar black and tan. Parvo is more deadly on these type dogs. So read the blog on Parvo. Many people to not know that yearly parvo booster is a must now to prevent adult dogs from getting it, as it's mutated. Good luck and happy trails.
in these photos, my dogs look very loveable/loving.don't let looks deceive you!they were just getting to know eachother, and the big one was establishing her dominance over the little one!
