I own a chihuahua named Rolex! He is 8 months old now. He's the best dog ever! And his best friend is our cat Cartier! Chihuahuas are a really good breed of dog. They are very fragile though! Chihuahuas should be rescued because there are countless…

Hi Sly, Have you checked to see if there is a Pit Bull rescue organization around you? They may be able to help you find and assess a home for her. They will love you for helping her and they understand that she is a great dog too.

Yes
Optional: Tell us a little about yourself
I am a lifelong pet-lover. I grew up on a couple of acres in California with 9 cats and a couple of german shephards. Now that I'm a city-girl, I've got more of an "indoor-only pets" philosophy. :-)

I work at Infospace, the parent company of Dogpile.com, and I've been very involved in putting my.Arfie together - I hope you enjoy it! In my spare time I volunteer at a local animal shelter, and go to a lot of concerts (my husband is a classical musician) . I also love baseball and softball, and am an avid fan of fantasy/sci-fi novels.
Optional: Tell us a little about your pets (names, ages, breeds):
I have 2 boy cats, named Baxter and Pumpkin.

Baxter is the youngest, though he's somewhere between 7-10 in age, so maybe "young" isn't the most appropriate word. He still (mis)behaves like a kitten though! Baxter is a 13-pound tuxedo DLH, and he is a complete mama's boy.

Pumpkin is our "old man". He is somewhere in the realm of 15 years old. Pumpkin is an orange and white DLH, although due to matting he had a lion-cut this past winter. So he's not as "long-haired" as he used to be. Pumpkin was once semi-feral, but has recovered admirably. He drools more than any animal I've ever seen, and breaks records for both purr-volume and yowl-volume.
Optional: What are your pets' favorite things to do?
Pumpkin loves to sleep, eat, and drool on his people. He also enjoys meowing for breakfast 15-30 minutes before my alarm clock goes off.

Baxter enjoys doing things he knows he shouldn't, sitting in front of a computer screen while it's in use, and finding unique ways to get as close to the ceiling as possible.
Optional: What are their "pet peeves"?
The vet! Being put in a cat carrier. Eye medications. Baxter also really hates it when I prevent him from ambushing Pumpkin.
Optional: What are their best tricks?
Baxter will have "crazy fits" where he runs across the living room, races over the hearth, up to the top of the cat tower, and then makes an astonishing leap of about 4 feet to land on top of our 7-ft tall bookcase. This is made more frightening and impressive by the fact that there's only about a foot of space between the top of the bookcase and the ceiling. It took us WEEKS before we saw it in action and we couldn't figure out how he kept getting up there.

Pumpkin is waaay more mellow. His tricks consist of drooling more than any living creature I've ever met, and being able to both purr and snore (no, not simultaneously!) so loudly you can hear him across a large room.
Optional: How did your pets become part of your family?
We adopted Baxter from the animal shelter where I volunteer back in 2003. I was lured in by the white spot under his nose.

We like to say that Pumpkin "came with the house". He was the neighborhood stray who had become quasi-feral. After a year and a half, we lured him indoors and he has come to accept us as his staff.

A Family Reunited

Here's a great story about a lost german shepherd getting reunited with his family, from the Daytona Beach News Journal. Deacon, an 18-month-old shepherd had been missing from his family in Virginia since before Christmas. Happily, after being found wandering in traffic in DeLand, Florida, his microchip led animal rescue officials to locate his owners, 600 miles away!

National Spay Day: February 23th

Is your pet spayed or neutered? Spaying or neutering your pets is the number one way you can help reduce pet overpopulation that results in the needless euthanization of hundreds of thousands of healthy, loving animals.

Of course, in these difficult economic times, many people have difficulty affording what seems like a needless surgery. However, many organizations and clinics offer low-cost spay/neuter programs to help families with financial difficulties. Here are a couple of sites that may h… Continue

Cat Survives Being Shot 13 Times

This is a crazy story - a cat in Australia was shot 13 times in the head, but will survive. I can't begin to understand how someone could think doing this to an animal would be acceptable or "entertaining". Sometimes, I like animals better than people...

It wasn’t that she was frightened, but she knew that she was in trouble. Her previous owners never took the time to teach her to walk on a leash or to do well with collars, and I haven’t had her long enough were she will follow me yet…
