What your friend needs to do is to write a note stating that they are transferring ownersdhip to the person(name) and date. They, the new owner, needs to take that to their local dog licensing department and they will need to re-license the dog in t…

Hello pet lovers! I have a scenario that hopefully someone here would actually know what to do. I am helping a friend give her puppy away to a new home...is there anything my friend needs to do as far as legally? I already told her to give them the…

My dog's random leg pain is actually a torn ACL (or almost torn- no surgery needed yet). Thankfully no x-rays were required, it was only a little trauma for him. It must be fairly common because my vet had a little dog knee model on hand to describe…

I often run my hands over my puppy just to check her body and skin for anything. I was told once before, to know your dog's body so you can spot things that are out of the normal. The other day I noticed a small sist like bump under her skin of her…

I did call my vet, who remembers Watson as the crazy dog, but she wants to see him because it could be a bone something-or-other. I was just really hoping it would be something simple because its symptoms were so mild. I'll post what the bone thing…

Profile Information

Would you like to receive e-mail updates from Dogpile.com?
Yes
Optional: Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Karla. I am a writer here at InfoSpace (home of Dogpile)! Besides weaving words and spoiling my fur kid, I like to play video games, hang out with my girlfriends, strum on my guitar, watch movies, paint and obsess over Seattle coffee.
Optional: Tell us a little about your pets (names, ages, breeds):
Bentley is a corgi / cattle dog mix who is 4.
DaVinci is a leopard gecko who is 27.
Optional: What are your pets' favorite things to do?
Bentley loves to prove "indestructible toys" to be completely destructible.
DaVinci favorite thing is lounging around on his fat belly eating wax worms (the only food he doesn't have to chase).
Optional: What are their "pet peeves"?
Bentley HATES baths. He hides under the bed every time the shower is turned on.
DaVinci hates evenings that he goes without food.
Optional: What are their best tricks?
Bentley best trick is eating food off the ground before I can catch him!
DaVinci best trick is just looking cool perched on his log ;)
Optional: How did your pets become part of your family?
I adopted Bentley in April '06 from a shelter in Eastern Washignton.
I traded a guinea pig for DaVinci when I was in the first grade.

It’s Food Drive for Animals Month!

I’m often asked to donate non-perishable food to those less fortunate. But sometimes, those less fortunate are pets! That’s why National Food Drive for Animal’s Month is so important – it draws attention to a need we might otherwise overlook.

This weekend I’ll be picking up a variety of dog food, cat food and other treats to donate to my local shelter. Contact a shelter in your area to find out how to donate to needy pets in your neighborhood (and it doesn’t hurt to ask what kind of food they n… Continue

National Dog Bite Prevention Week

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs every year! Like most people, I have a very low tolerance for dogs that bite. With so many good dogs in shelters waiting for homes, it’s difficult to rationalize keeping a dog that’s proven to be dangerous. That said, I think even that best dogs can slip up if they’re pushed to their limits. That’s why it’s so important to take precautions, even with dogs that have proven most trustworthy.

Swine Flu Spreads - Are Your Pets at Risk?

If your days have been anything like mine, they're inundated with talk about the swine flu. It's all over the news, it's discussed in my office and even people in the streets are commenting on the outbreak. But until I read this article, I was yet to hear anything mentioned about the risk our pets face. After all, if the virus can spread from pig to human, why not pig to pet?

They covered that exact topic over at The Examiner. Give… Continue

What Kind of Pet Parent Are You?

I just read about a new book that I am SO excited to read! It's One Nation Under Dog by Michael Schaffer.

Michael Shaffer explores the changing role pets play in our lives as he chronicles their history from loyal servants to best friends to "fur babies". And with a close look at pet parenthood today, from doggy daycare and puppy playgroups to organic meals and expensive learning toys, Michael asks what the Am… Continue

Tough Toys for Strong Chewers

I mentioned in an earlier blog about separation anxiety that I leave my anxious little guy home alone with special “indestructible” toys that can hold up to an afternoon of tough chewing. Since that blog posted, I’ve come to realize that many of you – like me – are looking for answers to the age old question “which toy will hold up?”

It came as quite a shock to me that Bentley, a corgi / cattle dog mix, was as strong a… Continue

Thanks :) She was originally from the pound so we are not sure about the breed. My best guess is beagle/dachshund mix but who knows. I was thinking of doing one of those genetic tests for dogs to find out :P

she was an American pit bull .everyone loved her..she loved going for rides in my truck and anyone that would pull along the side of me in a little car used to get a kick out of her when she would look down at them and her sunglass would slide down her nose and she would pick her head and fix them

@Karla... YO! Any idea how I can post an event to my group? I've got a Gaming Event coming up and totally forgot to post it. I know it may be too late now but if for no other reason, I'd like to know how to do it in the future. When I go to events I see no events listed and no add button. When I check my Groovy Gamer Pets group page I also see nothing which would allow me to click and add an event. I also have not been able to find a help section anywhere on the site. Any ideas? Thanks Karla! Peace, The Rev

He is suffering neglect right now because he lives with my sisters dad and he is in desperate need like if you could just get some people or some friends to join my group because every person that joins my group automatically donates 50 cents to my baby for food, and so that i can bring him home to my house soon. He needs love and care like i gave him when he was a baby boy.
