When I'm in my closet, looking at my clothes to choose something to wear, my dog will come in there and bark at me. She must think it's strange that I'm standing there staring at inanimate objects. She insists that I quit this behavior. I either have to choose something very quickly or pick her up and talk to her about what I should wear. I'll point at something and say, "should Mommy wear this one or this one......" That is the only way I can pick out clothing.

She also goes into my closet alone, usually in the evening, and dig or scratch on the carpet. If I go in there to see what she's doing, she stops and walks out of the closet. It's like her private time or something. She doesn't damage the carpet so I'm not concerned. I just wonder why she does it.

I can think of three possible reasons your dog might be digging at the carpet: 1. Terriers dig; it's their nature, no way around it. 2. She may be smelling remnants of something that used to be there. 3. It's her pack-mate's closet, filled with her scent; she may be trying to mix her scent with yours. As for her picking out your clothes for you, isn't that her job???? Mine used to nip at my pants legs whenever I got dressed. Just her little playful thing. Terriers are very playful, happy dogs and they want to BE in your life. If that means making you consult with your dog about your clothes, then that's what she'll make you do!

It may be a type of separation anxiety. She probably figured out that when you get clothes from closet, you will be leaving soon. Terriers are very observant and alert.
