Now that we have moved to a smaller house and grounds, and the cats are being kept inside for the first month, our pets are putting on weight, does and one have a diet for cats and dogs? The only one with no problems is the budgie!

Reduce the amount of feeding? When two of my five dogs gotten older, they became less active and I reduced the amount of feeding, they lost weight and still healthy.

Peter, I feed everybody raw, except my 17 year old terrier. The dogs get some veggies and fruits (apples and zukini) shredded into their ground beef, and the cats get all meats. They lost weight as soon as I switched them and one cat, who had battled severe skin allergies, improved right away too. You need to do a lot of reading before you switch though. I get the meats from local organic farms.

Thanks for the info, i will have a look into it. With less food (see T Jo) and raw sounds like we will get them back into shape. They are also getting out now and getting some exercise

Curious Natalie, why are you not feeding raw to your 17 yrs old terrier. What are you feeding instead? The veggies are raw too? Thanks.

My West Highland Terrier has itchy skin, I've tried bioton, brewers yeast, benedryl when acting up. So, this way of feeding me clear up the skin?

Can someone just spell it out? A dog food recipe etc. I read that the dogs need more than just meat for their nutrients etc. but I could not found any further on it. They were all book for sale etc. Are hot dogs too terrible for them? I'm trying to find an alternative to store dog food because I did not know they put downed animals in it as protein? The drug used to euthanize the animal does not disburse with the making of the dog food. So it's said it is what is shortening our dogs lives? And with all the preservative etc it's not healthy?

What we do, when we have time, is collect from the butcher, what we call sawdust (actually it's the shaving). it is what is left over, in the machine from when the butcher cuts up the meat. Sometimes they charge other offer it free.
This we boil with vegatables, either fresh or left overs. Our dogs love "greens" (cabbage etc.). Sometime we give them raw grated carrots, also another great delight.
Did you see yesterday, which is news to us, do not feed onions to dogs. We know that chocolate and raisins are posions to dog.
Hope that helps

Everyone have different opinions. Some people do not have the time to cook and/or prepare raw foods for their pets so they go for organic or holistic dog foods. Grapes famlly such as raisins, onions family, chocolates and some nuts are toxic to dogs. If you do dogpile search for toxic foods for canine, I am sure you'll find something. I know they have the list, but I don't remember where on the websites. (sorry.)
